Credit Card Terms - Authorization Only

Holding funds on a credit card without actually capturing any funds. An authorization only is used to hold funds before a sum of money is actually charged to the credit card. The reason for this is that the total amount is not currently known but the merchant wishes hold an estimate. Companies that use this function include hotels, car rental or contractors.
