The reason for a denied credit card application is most likely because of negative information taken from your credit report or an insufficient income.
This means you cannot be turned down for credit because of things such as:
Age (except if you are under 18)
Sex
Marital status
Race
Religion
National origin
Income derived from public assistance
Credit card companies have different standards for what applications to deny. But if you are turned down by several companies, it may indicate that you are not ready for a credit card. Read more about this under, “Qualifying for a Credit Card”.
If your application for a card is turned down, the creditor must send you a letter telling you so and why. If you were denied a card because of information in your credit report, the credit card company must tell you how to get a copy of the report from the company that provided it. If you request the report within 60 days of getting the letter saying your application was denied, it will be sent to you free of charge. To dispute an error on your credit report, contact both the consumer reporting company and the information provider.
